Short Films, Big Impact. The SOCIAL IMPACT FESTIVAL is a platform for cutting-edge knowledge and ideas, celebrating initiatives creating positive change, and generating insights that address complex social problems and runs July 18 to 28 in Perth.

And as part of the Impact Festival we're screening films in our very cool basement.

Studio Startup's basement under Toastface Grillah will transform into underground cinema for the duration of the Social Impact Festival.

Drop by, grab a toastie and settle in for some special short film screenings including: Aliko's Film and Grace's Film: In celebration of National Youth Week, SBS teamed up with the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) and Department of Social Services (DSS) to give young people the chance to share their story on national television. 15- to 24-year olds across the country were invited to submit a video entry about their unique identity. Social Impact Festival's Impact Gallery highlight some of the winners.

ALIKO'S FILM: Home isn’t just where Aliko Nomoa’s heart is — it’s where his soul and spirit are too. Through his Youth Week lm, Aliko is seeking to give the world beyond Mabuiag Island in the Torres Strait, a glimpse of what connects him to his culture.

GRACE'S FILM: In Australia on any given night around 26,000 Australians between the ages of 12 and 24 are homeless. Seventeen-year-old Grace was one of them.

BROKEN HILL: A new work by Peter Drew, the artist behind the 'Real Australians Say Welcome' posters among many others. Broken Hill is a short film about the launching of a balloon to celebrate the lives of cameleers who worked in Australia one hundred years ago.

SOUL MATES: Written & Directed by Naomi Rossdeutscher, SOUL MATES spans a critical turning point in the life of Paddy Byrne, a 64 year old man, as he battles with grief, loneliness, love and change. Paddy’s inner struggle ends in a moment of clarity and he’s faced with a decision that will signicantly alter his life and those around him
